when selecting a benchtop

Two things you will need to consider

The Type of Stone:

The best thing to do is to come in to our showroom on Koromiko Street in Tauranga and check out our large range of samples. You can choose from granite, marble and engineered stone just to name a few. Each different stone comes with unique qualities. Engineered stone offers a more consistent colour across the whole slab while granite and marble offer an intriguing mix of colours.

The finish: To build up or not to build up?

Essentially we can make your stone benchtop appear as thick as you want it to be. We use a process called “building up”. Most slabs arrive at the factory 20mm or 30mm thick so we simply use this technique to create the look you’re after.

The edges:

The edges of your top can make a huge difference to the appearance. The most common finish is what we call a ‘pencil arris’. A pencil arris is essentially where the corner edge of the top is “shaved” to smooth it off. Some people like this to be as wide as 5mm but most prefer 3mm.

The side:

Many people choose to have what we call a waterfall end – this is essentially where stone continues down the side of the benchtop all the way to the floor. It creates the impression that your kitchen benchtop raises from the floor as one solid piece. Waterfalls look particularly good on island benches.

The colour:

Each type of stone offers a range of colour options. The best thing to do is browse through the options on our site and then come into our showroom on Koromiko Street to check them out in person.

WHY STONE IS THE BEST CHOICE FOR YOUR HOME

WHY STONE IS THE BEST CHOICE FOR YOUR HOME

Stone is more affordable than you may think. As with most products, stone has a range of options to suit your budget, from granite and marble to man-made stones and composite materials. In many cases you might be surprised at the affordability of stone.

Stone benchtops are easier to care for and last longer than other options. When considering the alternatives, be sure to take into account lifetime and ease of use. For example, laminate tops are prone to scolding and marking from hot pans whereas stone is more resistant. The smooth surface of stone makes it easier to keep clean too.

MAKE YOUR CHOICE EASIER

Many people say that seeing full slabs up close helps them to make the choice between stone and other options. We encourage any person considering stone to come down and see our stone in person at our showroom; 51 Koromiko Street, Judea, Tauranga.
