Granite

Granite is the hardest building stone available with a particularly dense grain, making it very difficult to stain. It takes a highly polished finish which will endure even in severe environments. It can also be finished in a variety of other ways to improve slip resistance. There is a broad spectrum of granite colours ranging from nearly pure white to black. The rich colours of granite make it an ideal choice for bench tops, vanities, flooring and exterior applications. During its formation granite may be infused with other minerals, thus providing strong graining patterns or consistent crystalline structures.

Granite is quite literally as old as the earth. As igneous rock, it forms from magma that cools slowly, deep below the earth’s surface and along with other crystalline rocks, constitutes the foundation of continent masses. Granite owes its hardness and density to the fact that it has been solidified deep within the earth under extreme pressure resulting in a substance approaching the hardness and durability of diamond. On the MOH (Measure of Hardness) scale of 1-10 granite falls within the 2-8 range whereas a diamond is 10.
